About Us
Formed in 1969 the Hawk and Owl Trust works to conserve wild birds or prey and their habitats, through conservation, education and research
Wildlife Reserves
At the heart of what we do – and who we are – is the conservation of birds of prey and their habitats.
We believe that you cannot conserve these amazing creatures without first conserving their prey, and the whole chain of life that supports them and their habitats. It is a ‘bottom-up’ process.
We: EDUCATE, ADVISE, DEMONSTRATE OUR METHODS and CARRY OUT RESEARCH
All of these aims can be met through our reserves – as well as providing a fantastic visitor experience, with lots of wildlife to enjoy! The abundance of raptors, owls and other wildlife bear testament to the conservation methods we advocate and practice.
We have two reserves, all of which can be visited and enjoyed.
Sculthorpe Moor Nature Reserve
One of the country’s most accessible reserves, Sculthorpe is internationally recognised for its wildlife. The reserve in Norfolk is a marvellous, peaceful place with a huge variety of wildlife in a rich and unusual mosaic of woodland, fen and reedbed habitats.
Shapwick Moor Nature Reserve
Watch wildlife return as we restore arable farmland to wet grassland on the Somerset Levels. Shapwick Moor forms part of the Avalon Marshes complex of reserves, at the heart of the Somerset Levels. Avalon Marshes is a vibrant, working landscape, celebrated for its rich wildlife, heritage and culture.
